GETTING STARTED

Tags, collections and batch actions

Everything you write about an item lives next to it, in a text file. This page is about writing it faster: one item from the inspector, a hundred at once from the selection panel.

One item

Select an item and the right panel shows its title, description, tags, rating, note, collections, palette and file details. Every field is editable in place. The same edits are one right-click away in the grid, and 0 to 5 rate the selection from the keyboard.

Collections

Collections nest, take an icon and a color, and one item can live in several. Drag items onto a collection in the sidebar to file them, or drop files from the Finder straight onto a collection to import them there. Deleting a collection never deletes its items.

Several items at once

Select more than one item, with ⇧ or ⌘ click or ⌘A, and the right panel turns into a place to act on all of them. On top, a stack of their thumbnails with the count, then three buttons: Export… (⌘E), Sheet… and the trash.

  • Rating. One row of stars for the whole selection. It reads “all rated 4” when they agree and stays quiet when they do not. One click rates every item.
  • Tags. The tags every selected item carries, as chips. Tags carried by only some of them fold under a count, “16 of 31”, and unfold on click. × removes a tag from every item. The field, “Add a tag to 31 images…”, autocompletes from your library.
  • Collections. Same chips, same partial count. Add to Collection files the selection; New Collection creates one with the selection inside and opens the sidebar on it.
  • Colors. The dominant colors of the selection. Click one to filter the library on it.
  • Catalog them. When some selected items have no tags and a Curator key is set, a line says “8 of 12 have no tags” and runs the Curator on those only. The Curator →

Press T on a selection of two or more: the panel opens with the tag field focused. Right-click gives the same as Add Tag (31)….

Undo, exactly. Every batch action is one transaction, and ⌘Z takes back only what changed: a tag added to 31 items comes off the 19 that did not have it, each rating goes back to its own previous value, a new collection disappears with its contents kept.

Contact sheet

Sheet… writes one PNG, 2400 pixels wide, with every selected item laid out in rows in the order you selected them, on a light or a dark background. Teserra reads the originals, so the board is sharp enough to send to a client or drop in a deck. Choose where to save it; the Finder shows it when it is done. Agents can ask for the same thing over MCP. Agent access →
